(Port) Wine of the month November 2018: Niepoort Colheita 1863 (Lalique)

The second 100k EUR Port on the planet. To be fair: for the first one we needed 5.000 bottles to achieve the donation-amount of 100k EUR (www.o-port-unidade.com). Dirk Niepoort’s 1863 Colheita just needed one to make 127.000 USD, about 111.000 EUR at auction. Precisely six Magnum decanters with this 155 year old Port were made, each in a unique Lalique Decanter. More info about the Port and the decanter here.

Very intense and bright dark orange with green reflections. Amazingly concentrated. The bouquet reveals a fascinating complexity with honey, toffee and malt. As intense on the palate with honey and caramel, chocolate and coffee in the background. Long, almost never ending aftertaste with malt and toffee. Remarkably fresh. 20/20
