(Port) Wine of the month February 2022: Dow Vintage Port Quinta do Bomfim 1977
You think you have seen it all, but then someone shares a bottle with you. Last week’s online tasting (one great thing about Covid) topic with our Swedish friends was to have one classic and one second label or Single Quinta Vintage Port from the same year/same producer. Although I was aware that there were some special bottlings for a Danish importer in the past (I have tasted a Dow 1964 Vintage Port with him in Copenhagen some years ago), I was not aware of the existence of the Dow Bomfim Vintage Port 1977: Fully transparent, bright red color. Good grip on the bouquet with coffee and malty notes, fresh and fully balanced. Perfectly ripe tannic structure and very good integrated acidity, orange, coffee, tobacco and malt. Long aftertaste. Much better than the regular bottling, which does suffer from bottle variation. 18/20
